OCTOBER 2003
Announcing ArcGIS ArcWeb Services
ArcGIS Desktop Users Can Now Access Terabytes of Rich Content and Capabilities Without Having to Store or Maintain Data or Install New Software
Northern Geomantics is pleased to offer ArcWeb Services development. Click here for more information on how we can help you. A press release from ESRI is printed below describing in more detail the great features of ArcWebServices.

Redlands, California - ESRI, the leader in geographic information system (GIS) technology, now offers packages of ArcWeb Services that can be accessed by ArcGIS Desktop users through a free downloadable toolbar. The service packages currently offered by ESRI are ArcWeb Sampler (a free service package) and ArcWeb USA. The ArcWeb USA service package is a comprehensive offering of detailed data for the United States that includes street data, high-resolution imagery, weather data, topographic data, demographic data, flood data, and more. ArcWeb Sampler includes data such as world basemaps, shaded relief imagery, population data, world gazetteer, world airports, and world earthquakes. Many additional service packages are planned.

Using the ArcWeb toolbar, ArcGIS Desktop users can access a vast collection of always-current data via the Web and combine it with their local data. Because the data is accessed over the Web, it does not have to be stored or maintained locally. This results in a significant savings of time, expense, and computer resources.

With ArcGIS ArcWeb Services, ArcGIS Desktop users can:

  • Access terabytes of content and capabilities without having to store or maintain data or install new software.

  • Perform multipoint routing with driving directions.

  • Find named places and display them on a map (including geographic regions, bodies of water, and major points of interest).

  • Find addresses and display them on a map.

  • Locate points of interest (POI) using different proximity parameters. (Your POI can be uploaded to ESRI-hosted servers and spatially enabled for proximity searches.)

  • Perform queries on the data accessed through ArcWeb Services (such as census and flood statistics for a specified location).
