Northern Geomantics Completes Multi-Agency ArcIMS SiteMaine Department of Conservation ArcIMS Website Image

AUGUSTA, ME - Northern Geomantics developed a mapping website that's shared among three bureaus within Maine's Department of Conservation (DOC.) Each bureau (Maine Forest Service, Maine Geological Survey, and the Land Use Regulation Commission) needed a way to disseminate its location-based information to a wide audience in a cost-effective manner.

NGI's website design incorporates a common start page and individual map pages for each bureau. Within the site, land owners can learn which zones and sensitive habitats may affect their parcels (LURC Zone Viewer); loggers can find the closest mill to their cutting operations, filtered by tree species and other factors (MFS Mill Finder); and geologists and other customers of the Maine Geological Survey can find MGS maps cover any user-specified region of Maine (Publication Search Tool).

*Please note that data for the LURC Zone Viewer has not yet been released for public viewing, and that this portion of the site will not be available for the near future.

Cost savings using this approach came from the single entry point, a similar layout design for each page, and a single set of basemap data used in conjunction with the common mapping functions. Other benefits include increased public access to DOC information and reduced costs associated with fielding a large number of phone requests for information.
